Alcohol-Related Harm in the EU: the European Spirits Industry's response
The conference was held in the context of what was the forthcoming adoption of the European Commission's Communication for a cordinated approach to tackle alcohol-related harm. The European Spirits Organisation - CEPS' conference offered an excellent opportunity for participants hear from the European Commission about the aims and objectives of its proposed Strategy and the initial reactions of the European Parliament on the content. In November 2005, the European Spirits Organisation - CEPS adopted its own Charter on Responsible Alcohol Consumption. The Charter includes an obligation on the European spirits industry to publicly present an annual report of the progress made in attaining the objectives set out in the Charter. At this conference, the European Spirits Organisation - CEPS presented the first such annual report which explained the status of implementation of the commitments included in the Charter and identified where more work was still required. The industry also gave its reaction to the European Commission's proposed Strategy.| Final programme | |
